WHAT WE'RE WEARING AT - FRIEZE L.A.

It’s a fun week in Los Angeles… Frieze week!

With a ton of sister events and just cool things to check out, we are missing NY market week (oops, catch you in LA guys, sorry) to catch up on the west coast contemporary art scene.

I will be hitting up three events over the weekend as well as a brunch to squeeze in there too, so I figured I’d throw together some boards to help me plan. And if you want to follow along with me this long weekend, check out Leelanau’s instagram here.

First up this weekend is …

Spring Break Art Show Los Angeles - February 17–20, 2022

Spring Break Art Show has been called New York’s “funnest art fair”, and we expect the LA rendition to be no less. This show is known for its installations being in unconventional venues— think beyond the empty warehouse … a former embassy, an abandoned school, storage facilities etc. have been used for some of the over the top, immersive events. It’s third time in Los Angeles, this year the show is in the Culver City Art’s District. The theme: “Hearsay: Heresy.”, will feature immersive exhibitions from 50 curators.

Felix Art Fair  February 17–20, 2022

Felix Art Fair was launched in conjunction with Frieze L.A. by collector and television mogul Dean Valentine. I don’t personally know who that is but that sounded like important information to share here.

Apparently Felix is the more “hip” and smaller of the two main events of the week. Poolside at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel (yeah that one painted by Hockney), it will feature 60 international galleries, exhibiting in the cabanas as well as in rooms on floors 10 and 11.

TBD if I will go to this or if I will instead hit up Bergamot Station Arts Center bc it’s on the west side and I also have a brunch on Saturday so, like, who wants to really drive that much. More about Bergamot’s Freize week events here.

Lastly, l’événement principal! FRIEZE!

I signed up to get a lil’ curated tour bc I like to be told what people are really exited about, lol.

This year, Frieze will be at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. It also will spill out across the city with monumental installations for Frieze Projects. Keep yo’ eyes peeled for neat-o installations such as Mel Bochner’s Street Sign (Seriously?) .
ps - did you catch last months signage from Mel? More about it here.

Seeing as I will be with someone who will be giving me a tour, I want to look smart and let’s be honest, a little rich. haha…spoiler, I’m not.

I am going to be gone for quite a few hours, so I will need room for a breast pump (hi, I’m a mom), hence the big tote. I’m going to layer a Tee (this one) under this sweater, and if I get warm, tie the sweater around my natural waist (read, tie it high to draw it all in).

Anyway, hope that was as fun for you to read as it was for me to plan. Be sure to follow along over on instagram for actual peeks at what I am wearing. Who knows, I may put these looks on and toss it all out the window for just my trusty jeans and tee.
